He’s now up to 12 seasons where he’s scored 30 homeruns. There is nothing I’ve done that well for 12 years. Hank Aaron had 15 seasons like that, Barry Bonds 14, Mike Schmidt and Babe Ruth 13. I get tired just thinking about it.

A Greener Dodger Stadium

I was just reading some of the "next 50" Dodger Stadium information, and I think it's cool how they're going green. I'm not a huge tree hugger or anything, but stadiums are one of those places where you can really see waste at work. Just wait a few minutes after the stands have cleared to see what I'm talking about - cups, beer cans, and just trash in general all over the place. Lots of it. So, it'll be cool to know that more recycling of that trash (among other things) is happening with the stadium updates.

Plus, they're going to have waterless urinals, and I am just dying to see how that works! ;)

Keep It Together, Kemp

Kemp's appealing his 4-game suspension that he earned by scuffling with the Rockies' Torrealba. As a Dodgers fan, I hope he wins the appeal. But as a baseball fan in general, I kinda wish he'd just take his punishment like a man.

"I'm letting my team down," Kemp said. "Four games, that's a lot of games. I'm just trying to not get that many games suspended, so I can get back on the field and help my team win."

Dude, you already let your team down by being a jackass at the game. I mean, I'm sure it feels good to let your frustration out immediately and physically...but even in the heat of the moment, isn't there some part of you that can keep it together?

They cut the margin of defeat from six runs in Monday's opener to one in Tuesday night's 4-3 loss to the Brewers. They got two more innings out of starter Randy Wolf (six) than from Derek Lowe (four). They actually held (but squandered) two leads in this game and had more hits from Russell Martin (three) than the entire team (two) had the day before.

The Los Angeles Dodgers signed left fielder Luis Gonzalez today from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Gonzalez played his last 8 seasons with the Diamondbacks and was seen as a liability to their organization. But I say it's good to get a little more experience in the clubhouse, and we really didn't have to part with the much money to get him.

Comeback Player will come back to Dodgers

Nomar Garciaparra, who was named National League Comeback Player of the Year, will be coming back for at least two more years, based on a contract for $18.5 million signed this week. He's from around here, after all, born in Whittier, even though he has found himself playing far from home, for example, with the Boston Red Sox (where he was the American League batting champion twice).

The 33-year old Garciaparra started out as a shorstop where he became AL Rookie of the Year in 1997. He has been to the MLB All-Star Game six times. The reason he needed a comeback was a series of injuries that kept him off the field a good part of 2004 and 2005. But come back he did, and at a new position--first base--where he made only four errors for a .996 fielding percentage, while producing 20 home runs and 93 RBIs at the plate.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of Nomar.

This is nothing like the San Francisco 49ers getting ready to slide over to Santa Clara or anything. It’s just about [maybe] changing spring training from Vero Beach, Florida, out to Glendale, Arizona. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because it is the home of the football team with perhaps the coolest stadium and definitely the worst record in the NFL, the Arizona Cardinals.

Situated on the northwest side of Phoenix, Glendale is a straight shot from L.A. on Route 10, about a six-hour drive, not bad in the springtime. The Florida location made sense back in 1948, when our team was the Brooklyn Dodgers; now, even though there’s a cost involved (buying out the lease on Indian River County stadium), I think it would be a great move to bring spring training closer to the heart of Dodger country as it is today. (So I can start getting my baseball fix in February instead of April.)

World Series Could Wrap Tonight

And not a minute too soon, according to some commentators who seem more concerned about TV ratings and ad revenue than about baseball. They would like to undo the reforms that give teams all over the country a chance to get into the Series, because they want a show between teams with more "celebrities."

I couldn't believe my ears when this one guy said that the games and the quality of play have been fine but that was not the point. Sorry, some of us baseball fans think that is the point. We pay what it takes to get World Series baseball tickets, not World Series marketing tickets. Or ad revenue. Or celebrity showoff tickets.

The Los Angeles Dodgers finished their season in a frenzy of wins to tie the San Diego Padres for best record in the National League Western division, but only get the wild card due to tiebreaker. The Dodgers are going to meet the New York Mets in the Divisional Series on Wednesday, October 4. The shame of all of this is that the Mets and Dodgers are playing the best baseball right now and they have to meet in a best of 5 series.

Coming out of the 2 wins and 2 losses against San Francisco, I’m feeling good about the prospects for our LA Dodgers after the All-Star break. We have one of the best hitters in the league with Nomar Garciaparra, and we remain second in our division only to the San Diego Padres. We should, however, be taking teams that rank lower in our division for at least the majority of games now if we are to do well later in the season.

The Los Angeles Dodgers now stand alone in the top spot in the NL West after Sunday’s victory over the Colorado Rockies who were favored to win up until the ninth inning. The Dodgers came from behind scoring two runs in the last inning. The responsible parties were Russell Martin and Sandy Alomar Jr. Grady Little says that Sandy is the kind of player you can count on in a pinch and he proved it last night.

Monday night at Coors Field was awesome for the Los Angeles Dodgers – they got their eighth win in 10 games. Pitcher Brett Tomko had a dominating start and Nomar Garciaparra drove in the key run that defeated the Colorado Rockies 5-4. It was a nice victory and there will be more of these to come.

I am interested to see what subjects come up in that discussion. Repko has been with the Dodgers since last season and he is quite the hitter. Today I am really concerned about the possibility of civil war in Iraq. It seems that since we have been over there things have heated up in the Middle East and they are not getting any better. Before the war there were daily reports of bombings and terrorist activity and today it is the same. I see the two factions of one religion fighting and know that historically – religious wars are long and bloody. We would do well not to take sides in this inconceivable battle over whose God is right.

Rebuilding and Beefing Up for 2006

The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired a closer of all-star caliber. Danys Baez was obtained from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays along with Lance Carter another all-star. With a new closer and reliever our bullpen is looking fortified and ready for the 2006 season. Baez will be eligible for free agency after 2006 but we were looking for a fast solution to a big problem. Our pitchers are mostly very young and we needed to get some veterans in there to help support and fill the leadership roles left vacant by recent trades. If we lose the short-timers after this season we will just have to rebuild again for 2007.

Many players from Major League Baseball are using winter league play to show off their talents, condition themselves and show their teams that they are making an attempt to hone their skills for the 2006 season. Yhency Brazoban is one of those players. He is showing the Los Angeles Dodgers that he has gotten past whatever happened to him last season and that he is ready to pitch a lot of innings in 2006. Brazoban is playing in the Dominican Republic where he can get in shape for spring training. In 22 games he walked six and struck out 21 players in 22 innings. With 14 saves he is now high on the list of possibles for the Dodgers bullpen.

World Baseball Classic to be Held

In March of 2006 the first World Baseball Classic will be played. Fans are excited to see teams from all over the world compete for the World title. With so many international players coming into American Major League Baseball today, it will be interesting to see the teams from their home countries compete. Nothing like this tournament has ever been done in baseball. The people organizing the World Baseball Classic feel that this is the perfect time for an event like this to start because it will inspire camaraderie between the US and other nations who love sports as much as we do here in America.

Tomko Free Agent Deal for Dodgers

The Dodgers signed Brett Tomko, a free agent; because we are still not sure Jeff Weaver will return and needed to secure the opening he leaves behind. We signed Tomko for two years with an option for one more at a different rate. Tomko is from the San Francisco Giants and he had some pretty good stats while with them. I think this is a good deal and should strengthen our bullpen. Even better, Brett Tomko has worked under Ned Colleti in the past and they had a good relationship. Colleti is also looking for a fifth pitcher who is a veteran like Tomko.

Colletti Trades off Bradley

Ned Colletti has traded Milton Bradley, the difficult Dodgers outfielder, and infielder Antonio Perez for Andre Ethier from the Oakland Athletics team. Colletti is working to reshape the Los Angeles Dodgers outfield and the entire team. Cutting payroll and getting in some young talent are just a few of his goals. Bradley was an obvious choice for a trade and it looks like Colletti has his eye on some key free agents now as well. He is interested in Kenny Lofton as a replacement for Bradley. With all the changes on the horizon, team management has been quite conservative thus far with the trades. More changes are sure to come before Spring Training starts.

I truly believe that baseball is the most culturally conscious and patriotic sport of all. During the off season the teams do a great many charitable things for their own communities. When you look at the MLB web sites during the off season, each team is doing something either for a charity or for their city. Baseball teams show through their actions that they appreciate the support of the community. So many sports personalities these days are getting caught using drugs and serving jail time. Even with the steroids scandal, there are not a lot of times you have to worry about your child looking up to a baseball player.

With a vacancy in the manager position, it is hard to predict where the Los Angeles Dodgers are headed next season. Jim Tracy left in October and the position has remained unfilled. John McLaren is a candidate. Jim Fregosi is another who has interviewed but no one is saying which way general manager Ned Colletti is leaning. McLaren is a definite contender with 36 years of Major League experience having been a catcher, coach, manager and even a scout. Bud Black was considered for the job of Dodgers manager as well, but declined the nomination for family reasons. Lou Piniella also turned down an interview for Jim Tracy’s former position. It’s hard to tell who the team is serious about with such a variety of candidates being tapped for the role.

New GM Seeks Field Manager

Ned Colletti will be the Los Angeles Dodgers new general manager. Some thought that assistant GM Kim Ng was a shoe in for the position based on the criteria McCourt claimed to be measuring by. Frank McCourt, Dodgers chairman, claims Colletti has a skill that sets him apart from others considered for the job. That skill is communication. Colletti’s first task as GM will be to appoint a field manager. He has said he is considering Jim Fregosi and Lou Piniella. Since former GM Paul DePodesta scared off Jim Tracy at the end of the season, the search for a new manager is the highest priority for the Dodgers right now.

A Hurt Finger

It is a close race over in the NL West, well at least for the Dodgers, Diamondbacks, and Padres. The Dodgers were off to such a good start when the season started but are now in the thick of three way battle in the NL West standings. It will be harder with the absence of Milton Bradley who still has discomfort in his finger from a torn ligament in his finger that he acquired earlier in the season. So it looks like the Dodgers will be another week with there star center fielder.

Closer Eric Gagne has had to change his style a bit. Gagne was on the disabled list for a whole six weeks. He lost a bit of his kick on the mound. Known for his 95-96 mile per hour fast ball, Gagne has started throwing more change ups. Ever since coming off the D.L. his fast ball has lost some velocity.

Who here knows about Jayson Werth?

Well he is exactly what the Dodgers have been waiting for. Werth was in a bit of a slump and was sent down to the Minors as part as a rehab assignment.

He went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI’s and home run to cap off his performance. With his wrist appearing to be in good shape, expect Werth to be called up some time soon.

Too Selective

After a horrible start at the plate, Dodgers right fielder J.D. Drew still has his offensive struggles he is dealing with. The upside is that Drew is leading his club in walks, yet at the same time Drew is also nearing the top of the list for strikeouts.

One thing that I have noticed is most of the strikes has been called strikes and not swinging, meaning that Drew is being too picking at the plate. Don’t get me wrong a patience hitter is an always a good hitter, but you can’t be over selective.

With right-handed-Pitcher Scott Erickson's struggling of late, the Dodgers have been looking for another candidate for the fifth starter spot on the rotation. The one name that comes to mind is Wilson Alvarez’s. Alvarez’s would give the team a second left handed pitcher in the bullpen and could fit the need for that fifth starter. We just have to wait now for Alvarez to come off the DL.

Chris Gomez went 4-for-4, and Daniel Cabrera held Los Angeles to two runs on two hits in five innings Tuesday in the Baltimore Orioles' 4-3 victory over the Dodgers.

Gomez drove in one run and scored another. Geronimo Gil drove in a run and Larry Bigbie had two RBI in Baltimore's three-run sixth inning.

Hee-Seop Choi homered and Cesar Izturis had an RBI double for Los Angeles, but the Orioles raked six Dodgers pitchers for a total of 14 hits.

Los Angeles starter Scott Erickson went five innings and gave up eight hits, but allowed only one unearned run while striking out three.

One of the two hits off Gomez was a solo homer by Hee-Seop Choi in the fifth.

Choi has looked much more aggressive at the plate in recent days, something he's been working on.

"Last week, I think too much," Choi said. "I told (hitting coach) Tim Wallach I thought it was a big problem, but he said it was a little problem. I worked on timing and rhythm."

Choi has frustrated Dodgers coaches, trying for walks instead of swinging more often.

"I like walks, but I want to swing now," Choi said. "Last week, I was thinking `Ball, strike.' This week, I think, `Swing, swing, swing.' I like to swing."

The bad news for 20-year-old Greg Miller is that he underwent another arthroscopic shoulder operation two weeks ago and will spend spring training camp rehabilitating. The good news is that doctors found no serious damage during his second operation in less than a year and expect him to get a half season of game action this year. Miller last year was considered half of the Dodgers' jewel tandem of pitching prospects, along with Edwin Jackson, but he underwent surgery on his bursa sac in March and didn't throw a competitive pitch in 2004. . . .

It seems teams would always have problems in finding talent in free agency to replace voids that the teams have; well that is not the case for the Dodgers and their outfield.

With acquisition of J.D. Drew, and the departure of Shawn Green, who will play centerfield? One would think it will be Drew. $11 million dollars says it will be Drew, but Drew in centerfield means Milton Bradley to right and Jayson Werth in left.

That is a mighty fine outfield, the Dodgers problem who will play what…

Beltre undergoes more than just surgery

Beltre decided to file for free agency the same time he had surgery on hsi left ankle. Darren Dreifort also underwent surgery in his left knee. Lets wish all the best to these guys in a healthy and speedy recovery!:

Dodgers slugger Adrian Beltre filed for free agency Thursday -- the same day he underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove two large bone spurs from his left ankle.

Beltre, 25, hit .334 with a major league-leading 48 homers, 121 RBIs and 104 runs scored this year. The third baseman committed only 10 errors and struck out 87 times.

After the Dodgers lost to the eventual NL champion St. Louis Cardinals in the first round of the playoffs earlier this month, general manager Paul DePodesta said he planned to do everything he could to re-sign Beltre.

Beltre earned $5 million this year and figures to be one of the most attractive free agents on the market.

The Dodgers said Beltre is expected to complete his recovery from ankle surgery before spring training. He will be in a brace for 10 days and then wear a walking boot. He is expected to be able to resume jogging and running in eight weeks.

Reliever Darren Dreifort, who underwent hip surgery in September, had ligament surgery on his left knee last Friday, the Dodgers said.

Dreifort pitched in a career-high 60 games last year and went 1-4 with a 4.44 ERA. His status for next season is unclear. He has one year remaining on the five-year, $55 million contract

Tough season over

Mediocre starting pitching against the league's top offense is the biggest reason the Dodgers are now going home for the winter after a 6-2 loss to St. Louis in Game 4 of their best-of-five series Sunday night.

``We expected to go all the way,'' star third baseman Adrian Beltre said. ``It didn't happen. We knew it was going to be tough against the Cardinals.''

Cardinals brought a end to our post season in the first playoff series. Although they had the most wins in the whole league, we knew we could beat them but we just didn't execute. Its a matter of who wanted it more, and they came out ahead. We showed that we could make it despite the odds this year. We just didn't play like we could and it really hurt us in the end. All we can do is shake hands, and get prepared next year.

The Division title is almost ours, but it is a matter of us winning 1 more game of our next four and we are in indefinatley. I know we can do it, just as long as we pick up the pace a little bit. It was the Dodgers' sixth loss in the last nine games and cut their lead in the National League West to 1 1/2 games for the first time since July 17. With 13 to play, they've come back to the pack.

This kind of playing isn't the kind that will clinch the division. We are slacking, and badly. The Giants aren't backing down, as a result, they are inching closer and closer to us and may gain the lead if we continue to play like this. Lima continues to give us glory. He got the win last game against the Padres and he doesn't look like he is going to get out of his groove in the post-season. He's got a 4.06 ERA and he continues to pitch great! If the trading next year is anything like next year, we are going to expect a clean sweep. Now lets finish off the reg. season and get us a World Series!

His name is Edwin Jackson and last September on his 20 birthday he out pitch Randy Johnson. This one time rookie of the year favorite has literally lost control. Jackson just camp back from a 3 week stint in triple A Las Vegas. It seemed he still struggled. Manger Jim Tracy is worried about the kid throwing strikes or not. So it is off to the bullpen for Jackson for the time being.

We are off to the playoffs

With the playoffs getting closer and closet, I cant help but be excited about our Dodgers. They continue to play great with the occasional loss we can brush right off. We just need to keep playing like this and we will pull farther and farther away from San Francisco and secure our spot for certain. Lets get our players rested up in time for the playoffs, but we still need to play it out till the bitter end, because there is no telling what a team like the Giants or the Padres can go if they get things going. Lets finish the regular season strong you guys, GO DODGERS!

4 days ago against the Braves on the 21st, I was pretty nervous about the way I saw the Dodgers playing. Weaver hitting 3 players in the first inning, come on. But soon after answering with a Grand Slam just blew my mind, and thus again proving why the Dodgers is the best team in MLB. The Dodgers are continuing the lose one win one schedule, but they are still in the 1st spot so I'm hoping they dont slip up because a team being 5 gb is getting awefully close. Anyways lets get up for the Dodgers you guys!

Pretty Steady

We are in the lead for the division by 4 games or so. Its not much but since we are playing pretty steady and no sharp loses or anything, we should get a pretty guaranteed spot to the playoffs. Ofcourse if San Diego or San Francisco start winning, we will have to step it up a notch, but for now we look A.O.K.
On another note, we just got Pitcher Elmer Dessens from the Diamondbacks after Darren Dreifort was put on the 15 day injured list.

Lets get out their and cheer the Dodgers on to a Division Title and World Series this year!

Penny is hurt?

Brad Penny strained his bicep yesterday while pitching at the start of the game. Nothing is for sure at the moment but lets hope for the best and a speedy recovery. But of course, the injury from Penny , basically lost the game for us. Not to worry for the time being, but if the Padres start winning, it could be a fight for the division.

Philadelphia placed Burrell on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a strained left wrist. Burrell, who suffered the injury during batting practice Tuesday, flew back to Philadelphia and will be examined by team doctor Michael Ciccotti on Friday.

Brad Penny makes his Dodgers debut Tuesday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Dodger Stadium.
Penny, acquired Friday from the Florida Marlins, is expected to be the Dodgers' No. 1 starter and anchor a staff that lost its Opening Day starter, Hideo Nomo, and its top Triple-A prospect, Edwin Jackson, to injuries.
Penny has not pitched beyond the seventh inning since May and is averaging 6 2/3 innings per start.

RHP Paul Shuey had hip surgery July 28 and is out for the season.
LHP Randy Johnson informed D-Backs GM Joe Garagiola on July 27 that he would not accept a trade to the Dodgers, ESPN's Peter Gammons reported. The D-Backs had worked for three days on a potential deal with the Dodgers, an option they presented to Johnson. But Johnson said he would exercise his no-trade clause and not be willing to go to Los Angeles.
According to ESPN.com's Jayson Stark, the Steve Finley derby is down to just two teams --the Padres and Dodgers.

Wilson Alvarez will replace Edwin Jackson on the mound tonight in Houston - a good call by management I'd have to say. Granted, we may not need our brightest stars against Houston, but then again...best foot forward? At least that's what I heard. Should be a great game!

NL Falls in All-Star Battle

An Ivan Rodriguez RBI triple and two-run homer by Manny Ramirez gave the AL an immediate 3-0 lead. With two outs, Jason Giambi reached on a Jeff Kent error, and after Derek Jeter singled to left, game MVP Alfonso Soriano cleared the bases with a first-pitch homer to left field that gave the AL a six-run advantage.

Gagne and Lo Duca of the Dodgers finished out the game in the 9th inning. No runs against Gagne - but it wasn't exactly a high-pressure situation. Good work, Dodgers!

Good work against Houston, Dodgers! The Astros are now sitting at .500, and we're sitting at first in the NL West (.558). Right now everyone's taking a much needed rest during the All-Star break, and we'll face Arizona on Thursday to begin a 4 game series away. Not much else to say right now. Hello, Dodgers fans!

Julia here, bringing you all the info and opinions you could possibly tolerate! This blog thing is new to me, but since I am a huge Dodgers fan and my friends have been telling me that blogging is the way of the future, it seemed only natural I would dedicate my first blog to the Dodgers. I'm no genius, but I love baseball and I always support my team during the lows and the highs - that being said, I welcome all the comments, queries, rants, raves, etc. that you can fit in a box on your computer screen.
